Previously a Staff Physician at the Brooklyn VA Medical Center, over the years, he has held faculty appointments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. He has also served as Chairman of the Patient Care and Nursing Committee, Chairman of the Medical Staff Peer Review Committee, and President of the Medical Staff. Ira E. Mayer, MD, FACG, FACP, FAGA, attended New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, and received his medical degree in 1975. He then went on to serve his internship and internal medicine residency at New York Medical College/Metropolitan Hospital Center in NYC, NY (1975-1978). Furthermore, he conducted his gastroenterology fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia (1978-1980). In addition, Dr. Mayer received board certification in internal medicine and the subspecialty of gastroenterology from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Brooklyn Gastroenterological Association.
